Sunshine Coast based artist Lisa Davis has always loved to draw and create. She completed a Diploma of Visual Arts and began conducting painting and drawing workshops on the Sunshine Coast in 2001.

Our Weaving and Wildcrafting community circle at Ilkley Haven this morning was beautiful. It was lovely connecting, sharing stories, and creating together. I always love meeting new women in these spaces as well as seeing familiar faces show up again and again. Today we spent some time wandering in the forest grounds looking for natural smudging materials. There are many things you can use to smudge with. My art making process always begins with explorative play - making marks on the canvas without thought, just playing with paint and other mediums without any idea of what the end result might look like. I may have a subject matter I am exploring, I will look at the colours, textures, shapes - these are the inspiration but there is no ‘MUST’ in how I proceed. I just go with what FEELS right. It is a skill to let go of the mind that wants to control outcome and get lost in the process of creating. This is how you free yourself in your art making, but it’s also a skill for LIFE. The more we can let go of how things ‘MUST’ be, the more open we are to discover what MAY be - and this is where the magic happens… it’s in that space of FREEDOM that we find the SOUL 💫 #creativity #artforwellbeing #lifeskills #freedom #freeyourmind #findyoursoul

I really liked the initial collage of the forest. It stayed there a while, then I let it go. It is still there in the layers underneath - but through trusting the process the image was transformed.

These underneath layers could be likened to our memories of situations that we needed to let go of. Something remains in the psyche, perhaps the transformation is like our ability to turn our wounds into wisdom.

We go through a process that leads to our personal growth and remember the lessons we learned along the way.
